Are you Thriving?
For most of us, 2020 was a blur. We saw our daily routines go out the window. We traded commuting and lunch with co-workers for sweatpants and zoom calls. For some, it was a welcome change of pace. Working from home meant more flexibility and a healthier lifestyle. We incorporated lunch time walks around the neighborhood, enjoyed more quality time with our spouses and kids, and weren’t tempted by treats in the office. For others, it was the opposite experience. Working from home meant unlimited pantry snacking and being glued to our computer screens all day. At home gym equipment required a sizable investment, and dumbbells and weight plates sold out as quickly as they were restocked. Those who functioned best in group environments struggled to stay motivated without the support of their fitness, work, and church communities.
As we move into the second half of 2021, most of us expected the world to be “back to normal” by now. Even those of us who adjusted well to life at the beginning of lock down have begun to feel the heaviness of it all. This sense that we are at mile 24 of the marathon, but the finish line keeps moving further away. Psychologist Adam Grant has identified this emotion as “languishing” – a sense of stagnation and emptiness. Regardless of where you are, be it struggling with the disruption of COVID-19 from day one or recognizing a more recent loss of motivation as the pandemic drags on, the question remains: How can we start thriving again? How can we recapture our well being? The short answer is a renewed focus on our nutrition. Commit to two small steps that can make a big difference:
- Increase your water intake. Most of us do not drink enough water, let alone the recommended intake of at least 64 ounces per day.
- Check your macronutrients. Your macros are made up of protein, carbs, and fat. Unfortunately, most of the delicious and convenient foods are heavy on fat and carbs, making it difficult to consume enough protein. General guidelines state that about 30% of your macros should be protein. Based on individual weight loss or fitness goals, this amount may be even higher.
At SummitShaker, we know that true change and success comes from incremental steps. Our products are designed to help you as you pursue the discipline and hard work needed to achieve your goals. The Kilo, our silicone collapsible shaker bottle, is ready to help you take on this challenge. Not only does it hold 16 ounces, but the measurement markings make it easy to track your water intake. For more balanced macros on the go, use the Kilo to mix up a quick protein shake. When you’re done, collapse it down as a symbolic gesture that you just crushed your goals for today. Keep thriving.
